To get the maximum benefits of an oil massage, it is best to use chemical-free, cold pressed, organic vegetable oils, or massage oils with herbs added to them, or a massage oil to which an essential oil used in aromatherapy has been added. Given below are some of the best massage oils along with their benefits.

Massage oils

Olive oil: Helps to relieve stiffness because of its warming effect.

Apricot kernel oil: An excellent massage oil for reducing stress, it is very good for all types of skin, especially skin that is aging prematurely.

Jojoba oil: An anti-bacterial, deep penetrating oil, especially good for acne and eczema.

Borage oil: This is another oil that penetrates deep, stimulates and regenerates. Especially good for psoriasis and eczema.

Kukui nut oil: This is a light oil with a slight warming effect. It is anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and anti-bacterial.

Avocado oil: Being a heavy oil, it is best used diluted in a lighter oil.


Almond oil: A light oil, it is also anti-inflammatory. It is especially good for dry skin, although it is beneficial for most types of skin.

Coconut oil: A heavy and thick oil, it is best to warm it before use. It is especially beneficial for cracked, dry skin.

Grapeseed oil: This is beneficial for all skin types, plus it is non-allergenic.

Castor oil: This is a sticky, thick oil which is particularly good used on scar tissue and to draw out toxins. It is most efficacious when used in a poultice.

Hemp oil  Hemp oil has long been recognized as one of the most versatile and beneficial substances known to man. Derived from hemp seeds (a member of the achene family of fruits) it has been regarded as a super food due to its high essential fatty acid content and the unique ratio of omega3 to omega6 and gamma linolenic acid (GLA) - 2:5:1. It is this ratio that is believed to be optimal in terms of improving skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and acne. It has been reported that those using hemp oil as a supplement begin to experience noticeably softer skin, stronger nails and thicker, smoother hair after only a few weeks.

Different kinds of oil suit different types of skin. Hence, it is best to try out the various kinds of oils to see which suits you the best. Also, many people have a preference for particular oils due to their aroma, along with the effects of certain oils compared to others
