Vegan lovin

Vegan Lovin’ in Saskatoon!

You love animals, you love sustainability, and you LOVE lovin’. We’re here to help take out the guesswork when shopping for sexy fun products. At Positive Passions we pride ourselves on knowing the ingredients and materials of the toys, lubes, lotions and potions we sell. We carry a range of products for people with sensitivities and material or ingredient requirements or concerns. For those of you who desire or require products free from animal ingredients or byproducts, and who choose products that are not tested on animals, here is a list of items regularly available at Positive Passions to meet your needs!

For the full list of ingredients, click on the product to go to our webstore item page. We list the ingredients of the products we sell!

Our Favourite Vegan – Friendly Companies

Sliquid: This company produces vegan lubricants, shaving creams and soap-free intimate cleansers. All products are labeled “100% Vegan Friendly” and all ingredients are listed under the heading “Vegan Ingredients.”

Earthly Body: The Earthly Body company has amazing massage and skin care products that are all 100% vegan and never tested on animals (on their labels and on their website). They are on PETA’s “No Test List,” use the Leaping Bunny certified logo, and we can’t get enough of their great fragrances!

Jelique: Labels their products as “Cruelty-Free and Vegan” and uses the Cruelty Free Bunny logo.

Personal Lubricants

Why might some lubricants have animal ingredients? The main reason is glycerin(e). According to Sliquid’s website, some of the glycerine found in many commercially available lubricants may come from boiled down animal and vegetable fats (http://www.sliquid.com/faq.htm).

1. Waterslide, by Earthly Body

The label, and the website, say “no animal ingredients, no animal testing!” It is a glycerin-free product. There’s only three naturally occurring ingredients – water, propanediol (an organic compound) and carrageenan seaweed.

2. Sliquid brand lubricants – all of them!

Their label and their website certify them as “100% Vegan friendly ingredients” and they are ideal for women with sensitive skin or who are prone to yeast infections.

Sliquid Swirl Flavoured Lube (Blue Raspberry, Pina Colada, Cherry Vanilla, Green Apple, Strawberry Pomegranate & Pink Lemonade)

Sliquid Sea

Sliquid H2O

Sliquid Sizzle

Sliquid Silk

Sliquid Organics Natural

Sliquid Organics Warming

Sliquid Organics Silk

Sliquid Silver (silicone)

3. Pure Coconut Oil – many people enjoy using pure, natural coconut oil as a lubricant and vaginal moisturizer. You can buy jars of pure coconut oil at many drugstores and health food stores, and some brands are even organic. No preservatives, all natural. However, you must remember NEVER to use oil with latex or polyisoprene condoms as the oil breaks down the rubber and will  and oil will damage the rubber in many sex toys. Coconut oil also makes a great massage oil! Coconut oil is recommended here by Dr. J. Gunter: http://drjengunter.wordpress.com/2011/10/31/coconut-oil-a-natural-lube/

Protection

Surprisingly, many latex condoms use a milk product, casein, in the latex manufacturing process.

1. Glyde Dams (latex dams for vulva oral sex and anal sex protection) are vegan as no casein is used – they are even registered with The Vegan Society (www.vegansociety.com)

2. Durex “Avanti” male condoms are made of polyisoprene, not latex, and no animal products are used in their manufacture (according to vegansociety.com)

3. Kimono brand male latex condoms are “vegan friendly,” according to their website, but they don’t give specific details. (http://www.kimono-condoms.com/condom_questions.htm#7b, as of Aug. 4, 2012)

Massage:

1. Earthly Body Glow Oil – a light, moisturizing skin spray as well as a light massage oil! Comes in lickable flavours.

2. Earthly Body Massage Oil – a traditional consistency, long gliding massage oil with hemp seed oil

3. Earthly Body Massage Candles – made of soy and coconut oil, they are both candle AND massage oil once they melt. Try their Edible Massage Candles, too!

4. Edible Massage Bar by Sexy Living – these are delicious massage bars that you rub on and lick off! Great for moisturizing, too! They are not explicitly labeled as vegan, but the listed ingredients don’t come from animals (see Strawberry, Mango, Coconut, Ravish Me, Cinnamon, Vanilla, and Provence). They contain cocoa butter, natural flavours from essential oils, organic flax oil, and stevia as a sweetener. (Mandarin and After Midnight Mint list “dark, unsweetened chocolate” in the ingredients, so it’s unclear if those 2 flavours contain milk ingredients or not).

Enhancers

Sliquid O Gel – A warming, tingling clitoral arousal gel by Sliquid, labeled “100% Vegan Ingredients!”

Nipple Nibbler by Jelique – Smooth, creamy, tingly flavour for your lips AND nipples! Jelique products are “Cruelty Free and Vegan” with the Cruelty-Free Bunny logo and text on the label and the company website.

Bath & Beauty:

Sliquid Smooth – Fantastic moisture-rick shaving crème for all over your body! Great for sensitive skin. Like all Sliquid products, labeled 100% Vegan Ingredients.

Sliquid Splash – Ph-balanced, soap free genital wash! Gentle cleanses intimate areas, great for sensitive skin. Again, labeled 100% Vegan Ingredients.

Dare to be Bare Miracle Oil by Earthly Body – the best way to prevent razor burn, irritation, and in-grown hairs after shaving or waxing! Vegan certified ingredients, Leaping Bunny logo.

Pure Instinct Cologne by Jelique – Incredible pheromone-based cologne designed to enhance your natural scent and subtly attract others. Jelique’s website names all of their products cruelty-free and vegan.

Toys and BDSM Accessories

While currently none of our toys are specifically labeled vegan, here is some information on products that are made from materials that do not themselves come from animals. With toys and BDSM products the two major non-vegan factors would be the presence of latex or leather. Latex, as noted in the condom section, often uses casein (milk protein) in the manufacturing process, so all products which do, or may, contain latex should be suspect unless the company specifically reports that casein is not used. Toys that are made of 100% silicone will not need animal ingredients used in processing, as silica (sand) is repeatedly heated and cooled (according to Tantus Inc: http://tantusinc.com/SEX-ED/Healthy-and-Green). While many BDSM toys cater to leather enthusiasts, and some use silk, other options are available, including vinyl, rubber, and polyester.

Toys by Tantus:

Vibrating Corset harness

The Dipper anal plug

G-force dildo

Ophoria – a 100% silicone toy company

Toyfriend – a 100% silicone toy company
